Admissions
Parents must complete an online application form and submit it to the school prior to the deadline in order for the student to qualify for selection in the Lottery. Times will be posted for application deadlines to be met in order to qualify to participate in the Lottery.
The school will determine the number of spaces that are available in all grades within the school.

Definitions
Application: This is a short form filled out for new/interested students. The initial application period is late winter/early spring, though applications can be filled out any time of the school year. All applications received during the initial application period are put in the same ‘pool’ and are eligible for the Lottery held in March, if any grade is oversubscribed.

Registration: This is the period when long forms are filled out and required documents are submitted once students are accepted after the application period, off the waitlist, or during the year.
​
Enrollment: Following the Lottery drawing, the parents of the students who have been selected will be notified by email and telephone. Each parent will be notified to complete the enrollment paperwork and to finalize enrollment at their accepted school. The official status “Enrolled” is when the student arrives on campus and attendance is taken.

Enrollment Requirements
Federal law and non-regulatory guidance requires charter schools receiving federal funds to use a lottery when a school is oversubscribed. Texas Law-TEC 12.117 offers 2 options: Lottery or first-come, first-served to fill the positions in the order in which the applications were received before the application deadline. At Legacy, a waiting list will be developed for the applicants who were not admitted through a lottery. The ordered list of families who did not receive a spot in the lottery will be placed on the waiting list for the current school year. For example, if there are 33 6th grade spots available, the 34th student will become number one on the waiting list. If families are interested in enrolling their children after the lottery date has passed, they will be added to the bottom of the appropriate waiting list and processed on a first-come, first-served basis behind all applications received during the enrollment period. The waiting list will be valid only during the current academic year. All students on the waiting list will be required to fill out a new application the following year to be entered in the lottery.
Application
Families may submit an online application during the designated application period each year. The school will begin accepting applications for admission for the next school year in October of the current school year. This admissions application period will be open for 12 weeks.

Lottery
When any grade is over-subscribed (when there are more applicants than spaces) at the end of the application period, Legacy the School of Sport Sciences will conduct an electronic lottery per State of Texas guidelines requirements until all openings are filled. The following are exempt from the lottery if applications are submitted during the designated application period:

children of Legacy the School of Sport Sciences staff members, and
-
siblings of Legacy the School of Sport Sciences students already admitted or attending the school, and
-
children of Legacy officers, directors, teachers, and staff, so long as the total number of students allowed under this exemption constitutes only a small percentage of the school’s total enrollment.
Children not selected for immediate placement will be placed on a waitlist according to their number in the lottery process.

Waitlist
Legacy the School of Sport Sciences strives to maintain full and vital classrooms at all times. In the case of grade oversubscription, an electronic waitlist will be maintained by the school registrar in partnership with the school’s software provider. As positions become available throughout the year (as in the event of a student withdrawal) children occupying the next position in their grade’s waitlist will be notified and instructed to submit a registration packet. Please note that at times, students may move down on the waitlist if siblings are prioritized above them.

Late Applications

A child who applies after the application deadline will be considered for registration, should a position in his/her grade become available after the lottery is completed. Each application will be time-stamped and will be added to the end of the appropriate grade’s waitlist. The school will continue to accept applications through the school year after the school year begins. Applicants will be added to their grade’s waitlist if the grade is oversubscribed.

Open Enrollment Charter School
Legacy the School of Sport Sciences is an open-enrollment charter school, which is a public school of choice. Admission and enrollment of students shall be open to persons who reside within the geographic boundaries stated in the school’s charter. In order for a student to be admitted into an open-enrollment charter school, the parent must follow the established guidelines for the admission and lottery process.

Currently Enrolled Students
Once students are admitted to the school, they are not required to participate in the lottery or admission process, but they will be asked to indicate their intent to return to the school by completing the re-enrollment process which usually occurs in early January.

A student who withdraws for any reason during the school year is only eligible for re-admission through the lottery. See also the Student Code of Conduct for additional requirements if a student withdraws prior to a pending disciplinary action.

Readmission after Withdrawal
A student who has withdrawn pending disciplinary action or has been expelled from Legacy the School of Sport Sciences may reapply and return subject to the following criteria:​

A vacancy exists.

The student must have an error-free discipline record at their current school for at least one full semester.

The student must meet with the Re-Admission Committee (Principal, Counselor, Lead Teacher) to explain why s/he should be readmitted.
After the above steps have been completed, the student is eligible for the Lottery process to gain admission.

Enrollment Policies
Legacy the School of Sport Sciences is an open-enrollment public charter school that does not charge tuition and does not administer entrance examinations. Any student residing within the geographic boundaries set by a Legacy Collegiate Middle and High School for Careers in Health and Wellness charter can attend, if there is space available. Enrollment is based on a fair and equitable system which provides for

a waitlist, as required by Texas Education Code § 12.111(a).
Legacy the School of Sport Sciences schools do not discriminate in admissions based on sex/gender, national origin, ethnicity, religion, disability, academic ability, athletic ability, artistic ability, or the district the child would otherwise attend. Per Legacy Collegiate Middle and High School for Careers in Health and Wellness charter, we are only permitted to enroll students who reside within the geographic boundaries of the following independent school districts: Aldine, Cleveland, Conroe, Cy-Fair, Fort Bend, Houston, Humble, Katy, Klein, Magnolia, Pearland, Spring, and Willis. Chapter 25 of the Texas Education Code does outline the various conditions which permit students who do not reside within the approved boundaries to attend Legacy the School of Sport Sciences. Exclusion of Students with Documented Discipline Histories
Subject to and in accordance with Texas law, Legacy the School of Sport Sciences will not generally accept students with documented criminal histories, juvenile court adjudications, or other serious discipline problems under Subchapter A, Chapter 37 of the Education Code. A parent may appeal this determination to the Board of Directors if there are extenuating circumstances concerning student discipline history in accordance with the general grievance policy adopted by the Board of Directors. A student who has been expelled from another school district or charter school will not be eligible for admission.

Please Note: Current Legacy the School of Sport Sciences students wishing to attend the same campus or completing the highest grade offered at their current Legacy the School of Sport Sciences school should not register using this process. Re- registration occurs at each Legacy the School of Sport Sciences campus during the spring for all currently enrolled students.
When to Apply
The Open Enrollment period is the period prior to the start of each school year when parents/guardians can complete an application for each child to their desired school(s). Open Enrollment dates for the upcoming school year will be posted on the enrollment page of each Legacy the School of Sport Sciences school website. Applications received after the Open Enrollment period will not be eligible to enter the Open Enrollment lottery. Instead, these applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis behind applications received during the Open Enrollment period that have been placed on a waitlist.
How to Apply
During the Open Enrollment period, parents and/or guardians complete applications for each student to their desired Legacy the School of Sport Sciences. Applicants are encouraged to submit applications online through the application portal. Be sure to select the appropriate school year before completing the application. Paper copies of the application will be made available upon parent/guardian request. Applications submitted through the application portal need not be signed to be entered the lottery or considered for an offer of enrollment. Applicants who are offered enrollment will be given instructions on how to accept the seat offer and print and sign the registration packet.
LOTTERY & ENROLLMENT PROCEDURES
Procedures When Applications Do Not Exceed Capacity
At the close of the Open Enrollment period, the total number of students with completed applications is determined for each grade at each school. If the total number of applicants is less than or equal to the total capacity designated for a grade level, all applicants for that grade level at that school will be offered enrollment on a first-come, first-served basis.
Procedures When Registration Exceeds Capacity
If, for any grade level, the number of applicants exceeds the number of openings, there will be a lottery to determine enrollment and waitlist numbers.
Open Enrollment Lottery
If an Open Enrollment lottery is required, only those applications submitted during the Open Enrollment period will be included within the lottery pool. Any applications received after the Open Enrollment period has ended will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis behind any students placed on the waitlist. The lottery is an electronic system that randomly identifies students for enrollment. All applicants who are not exempted from the lottery process, as discussed below, will participate in the lottery.
Lottery Exemptions
In accordance with federal guidance on the Charter Schools Program, Legacy the School of Sport Sciences will exempt the following applicants from the lottery process if a class or grade is oversubscribed:

Children of the school’s founders, so long as the total number of students allowed under this exemption constitute only a small percentage of the school’s total enrollment. To be exempted from the lottery process, children of the school’s founders must submit a completed application before the closing of the Open Enrollment period.

Children of the school’s teachers and staff, so long as the total number of students allowed under this exemption constitute only a small percentage of the school’s total enrollment. To be exempt from the lottery process, children of the school’s teachers and staff must submit a completed application before the closing of the Open Enrollment period.

Siblings of students already enrolled at Legacy the School of Sport Sciences school. A sibling is defined as an individual having one or both parents in common or a step-sister or step-brother that resides under the same roof as the applicant. Cousins, nieces, nephews, and unrelated children sharing an address with the applicant are not considered siblings. Documentation may be requested to confirm sibling status. To be exempted from the lottery process, siblings of currently enrolled students must submit a completed application before the closing of the Open Enrollment period.

Students who have been deemed as in attendance at Legacy the School of Sport Sciences and who have completed a re-enrollment form and/or submitted a Transfer Request Form to change enrollment to another campus.
Sibling Exemption Guidelines
All current students who elect to re-enroll for the subsequent school year in a timely manner are deemed as “enrolled” for purposes of the lottery process. If an enrolled student who withdraws from the school before a sibling of the student is offered enrollment, the sibling will not be eligible for an exemption from the lottery. If one sibling of a student in attendance is randomly selected by lottery for enrollment, any other siblings of the enrolled student will be exempt from the lottery process. Sibling enrollment is not guaranteed, however, and is dependent on the available space in the requested grade or class. If there is no available slot, a sibling will be placed at the top of the waiting list of the requested grade or class.
ACCEPTING/DECLINING OFFERED ENROLLMENT
When an applicant is offered enrollment, his or her parent/guardian will receive instructions on how to accept the enrollment offer and complete the student’s files at that school. These parents/guardians will be asked to login to their online enrollment account to:
Accept/Decline the offer of enrollment
Answer all registration questions and print the completed registration packet. Once an applicant has accepted an offer of enrollment and printed their completed registration packet, the applicant will be asked to bring the completed registration packet to the school to finalize enrollment and complete the student’s enrollment file. The school will provide specific drop-off dates and times for submitting completed registration packets.
Parental Rights and Educational Decision-Making
Legacy the School of Sport Sciences complies with all applicable court orders. For parents who have joint educational decision-making authority for their child, Legacy Collegiate Middle and High School for Careers in Health and Wellness may rely and act upon the decision of either parent unless we are aware that the parents disagree about that decision. If parents with joint educational decision-making authority disagree about an educational decision for their child, including a decision about enrollment, Legacy the School of Sport Sciences will maintain the status quo and require the mutual agreement of the parents before acting.
Registration Packet
The registration packet consists of the Student Registration Form, Student Record Transmittal Request, Emergency Contact and Medical Information Form, Media Release Form, and copies of the student’s proof of identification and Immunization Records. Parents will also be asked to provide Proof of Residency and any applicable custody information, medical alerts, and legal alerts. All forms must be filled out in full, signed, and submitted to the school.
Date Registration Complete
Registration is considered complete after all required documents have been submitted and an interview has been conducted between the student, parent(s)/guardian(s), and the Executive Director or Principal. The student is considered enrolled after attendance is taken on the first day of school.
WAITLIST PROCEDURES
Applicants who are not randomly selected for enrollment in the lottery process will be placed on a grade-specific waitlist based on lottery results. Students who submit completed applications after the Open Enrollment period will be placed on the waitlist behind those students added to the waitlist through the lottery process, based on the date the application is submitted. Each time an opening becomes available in a grade, the school will contact the parent of the student next on the waitlist for the grade and offer them the open spot for their child. If the parent declines the spot, it will be offered to the parent of the next student in line on the waitlist for that grade, and so on. Parents with children on the waitlist are encouraged to advise the school of any change in their contact information so that they may be reached if an opening develops for which their child is eligible. Parents are also asked to notify the school if they no longer wish to have their child included on the waitlist, so that the waitlist can be updated accordingly. Our waitlists do not roll over from year to year; parents with students on a waitlist for the current school year must complete the registration process for the next school year. It is not possible for a school to determine applicants’ chances of being offered a spot if they are on a waitlist. Once classes are full, any spots that open are the result of student withdrawals. Although we do typically see several spots open before the start of school, we have no way of knowing in which grades spots will open or how many spots will become available.
